Hey, all! Welcome to my coffee blog! Here I will discuss all things coffee. In this first post I wanted to introduce myself and my company. My name is Grayson and I am an absolute coffee NERD. I love this stuff! I used to like coffee but was just a casual coffee drinker. Then one day I tried specialty coffee. I never knew coffee could taste like that! I was hooked. I had to learn more! So, I dove deep into the rabbit hole. I have spent countless hours researching every aspect of coffee. Varietals, terroirs, altitude, roasting, brew ratios, grinding, and even water chemistry; all of these things can have a huge impact on the flavor of the coffee.
I have always been obsessed with the idea of constantly improving. You are never too far along on your journey to stop learning and growing. Then my freshman year of college, my tennis coach recommended that we each pick one word to be our "word of the year"; it was going to be one word that we would write down somewhere and look at it every day, and it was supposed to guide us through that year. As you can probably guess by now, I chose the word Devoted. It was not only my focus for that year, but it has remained a focus word for me that I constantly remind myself of. I always want to be devoted. Devoted to making the best coffee, devoted to learning, devoted to growing in knowledge and wisdom, devoted to my family, and devoted to my faith. I am forever thankful to Coach Chad for encouraging us to pick a word of the year. If you have never tried something like a "word of the year" I would encourage you to try it. It can be great for your personal development, faith, or both.
Lastly, I wanted to talk about my passion for helping people. I started coaching tennis when I was 16 because I enjoyed learning about it and sharing that with others. As I continued to help my friends learn, I had some people say that I would be a good tennis coach. So, I coached private tennis lesson part-time while I was in college. I continued to love coffee throughout college and was starting to try better and better coffee. (The specialty coffee community was really growing during this time.) When I graduated, I got a job as a Spanish teacher because my other passion besides tennis and coffee is foreign language, and I wanted to use my passions to help people. I have been working as a Spanish teacher and I do enjoy it, but I felt like I could still do more to help people and make more connections. This was when I had the idea to bring my love and passion for coffee and helping people together. I decided to open Devoted Coffee Co. so that I can share my passion with others and help brighten their day by serving them the best possible cup of coffee they could buy.
Thank you! I'm Grayson and I am Devoted!
